Pisac, a key Inca site: Pisac is an important Inca archaeological complex located near Cusco, known for its ruins on the Apu Inti Huatana mountain. It is believed to have served as an astronomical observatory, fortress, and ceremonial center, built by the Inca Pachacutec. It was damaged during the Spanish invasion and is divided into an Inca zone in the upper part and a colonial zone in the valley. Pisac also stands out for its artisan market. Due to its strategic location, forming a triangle with Cusco and Piquillacta, it suggests a defensive role.
Ollantaytambo was built mainly by the Inca Pachacútec, serving as a multifunctional complex: fortress, administrative, religious, and agricultural center. Its construction and embellishment continued under the reign of Túpac Yupanqui, with the addition of agricultural terraces and ceremonial structures. The site stands out for its sophisticated engineering and urban design, demonstrating Inca skill in architecture, hydraulics, and agriculture. Ollantaytambo is a clear example of Inca skill in architecture.
Chinchero was founded by the Inca Túpac Yupanqui as a palatial residence in the year 1480. The site includes pre-Hispanic roads, enclosures, terraces, water channels, and shrines. It is divided into two sectors: urban (residential and ceremonial for the nobility) and agricultural (terraces). Túpac Yupanqui ordered the construction of shrines, baths, terraces, and the great royal palace. The chronicles relate that the ruler died in obscure circumstances.
