Palcoyo Mountain, a set of three mountains with diverse hues reminiscent of the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), offers a more accessible alternative for visitors. Unlike Vinicunca, which is located at an altitude of 5200 meters above sea level and requires a demanding trek, Palcoyo is situated at 4900 meters and can be explored with a gentle one-hour hike, without significant elevation changes.
The car journey from Cusco to the start of the Palcoyo hike is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes each way, including a stop for breakfast or lunch. The distance is 125 kilometers. The start of the hike is located at an altitude of 4700 meters above sea level. The trail to the stone forest is a zigzag path of about 200 meters, which takes approximately 20 minutes of walking. The hike to the last viewpoint takes about 45 minutes, with occasional breaks. The return to the bus station takes 30 minutes.
